Kerala police have apprehended a civil contractor as part of their ongoing investigation into the sexual abuse case of a 16-year-old boy, bringing the total number of arrests to 10.
The arrested individual, Gireesh, is among 16 suspects from Kasargod, Kannur, Kozhikode, and Ernakulam regions who allegedly sexually abused the teenager over a two-year period. Investigators confirmed the dating application Grindr was utilized to target the minor victim.
This recent arrest expands the list of suspects from diverse professional backgrounds, including a former Assistant Education Officer, a Railway Protection Force officer, a Jamaat-e-Islami activist, and a Youth League leader.
Police sources have revealed that one of the fugitive suspects, a Youth League leader, is anticipated to surrender soon.
Kasaragod district police chief BV Vijaya Bharat Reddy stated that the victim endured abuse spanning two years.
The investigation commenced after the boy's mother observed unusual behavior and suspicious communications on his mobile device, subsequently reporting her concerns to law enforcement.
The case was forwarded to Childline, where the victim disclosed the complete extent of his ordeal. Police investigations revealed that some perpetrators had provided monetary compensation to the boy.
The accused individuals face serious charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). These charges include penetrative sexual assault, repeated sexual assault, and enticing a child for pornographic purposes.
