Two guards have been dismissed and an assistant jail superintendent has been suspended following a security breach at Raipur Central Jail.
Raipur Central Jail has come under scrutiny once again after a video showing alleged drug kingpin Rashid Ali, also known as Raja Baijhar, performing workout routines went viral. The footage, reportedly captured between October 13 and 15, shows Ali exercising freely in barrack number 15 despite being incarcerated on serious charges related to operating a drug network.
Adding to the controversy, selfies have emerged showing Ali posing with notorious criminals Rohit Yadav and Rahul Valmiki. These images have shocked many observers and raised significant questions about the apparent freedom these inmates enjoy and the security protocols in place at the facility.
An internal investigation conducted by jail authorities revealed that an undertrial prisoner named Shashank Chopra successfully smuggled a mobile phone into the prison. Ali allegedly used this contraband device to take selfies with fellow inmates and record videos of various activities, including workout sessions, while two guards were on duty.
Following the investigation's findings, the Central Jail's superintendent took immediate action by dismissing guards Radhelal Khunte and Bipin Khalkho for dereliction of duty. Reports indicate both guards had previously received multiple warnings for similar negligence. Additionally, Assistant Jail Superintendent Sandeep Kashyap has been suspended from his position.
Ali has been detained in Raipur Central Jail since July 11, facing charges under the NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act. He stands accused not only of operating a drug distribution network but also of running extortion schemes from within the prison. Sources suggest that some jail staff members may have been complicit in providing him access to mobile phones and other prohibited items.
This incident is not isolated, as Raipur Central Jail has faced similar controversies in the past. Previously, a photoshoot featuring gangster Aman Saw from inside the prison went viral on social media. Saw was subsequently killed in an encounter operation conducted by Jharkhand police.
