DK Shivakumar Counters BJP: 10,000 Bengaluru Potholes Fixed While Opposition Brings Zero Central Funds

Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar has challenged BJP's criticism of Bengaluru's infrastructure by highlighting the repair of over 10,000 potholes and implementing a citizen-centric reporting system for civic issues. He questioned BJP MPs' contributions, noting none have secured central funding for city development despite having representation including Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

DK Shivakumar Slams BJP's Criticism, Says 10,000 Bengaluru Potholes Fixed

Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has delivered a strong rebuke to BJP and its Bengaluru MPs regarding their criticism of the city's infrastructure. He proudly emphasized that no other administration across the country has empowered residents to directly report civic problems such as potholes and waste management issues.

During the launch ceremony for Bengaluru's road white-topping and infrastructure development initiatives, Shivakumar questioned, "Has any other government enabled citizens to photograph potholes or garbage and forward them to officials for immediate action? This system has been implemented exclusively under Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's leadership."

Shivakumar highlighted that his administration has successfully addressed over 10,000 potholes, contrasting this with the previous Basavaraj Bommai-led BJP government, which had acknowledged in a court affidavit the existence of 20,000 potholes throughout the city.

Taking aim at BJP leadership, Shivakumar noted that opposition parties had criticized the government's initiatives to develop a 113 km corridor and city tunnel project. He indirectly referred to a BJP MP as "an empty vessel who merely creates noise and posts on social media."

The Deputy CM issued a challenge to Bengaluru's BJP MPs, stating, "Bengaluru has five MPs – has even one of them secured any funding from the Central government for the city? Nirmala Sitharaman herself serves as a Union Minister, yet have they managed to bring even 10 rupees for Bengaluru's development? If they have, I will accept whatever consequence you determine."

His comments come amid ongoing criticism from BJP representatives regarding Bengaluru's road conditions and infrastructure management capabilities.
