Mumbai:
The Indian stock markets advanced on Tuesday during the special Muhurat trading session, marking Diwali 2025 and the commencement of Vikram Samvat 2082, the new Hindu calendar year.
Muhurat trading, a time-honored tradition viewed as auspicious, symbolizes wealth and prosperity for market participants.
The Sensex concluded the session up by 62.97 points or 0.07 percent at 84,426.34, while the Nifty gained 25.45 points or 0.10 percent to finish at 25,868.60.
Analysts observed, "Despite reduced trading volumes and occasional profit-taking, the index maintained stability above critical short-term support levels, highlighting robust underlying momentum and sustained investor confidence."
"From a technical perspective, the outlook remains positive as long as Nifty holds above 25,800, with 25,750 serving as immediate support. The 25,600-25,500 range provides key downside protection, while clearing the 26,000-26,300 resistance could trigger new record highs," they further stated.
The Bank Nifty, however, recorded a slight decline of 26 points or 0.04 percent, ending at 58,007.20. The market extended its winning streak to five consecutive sessions, bolstered by favorable global market conditions.
Leading gainers on the Sensex included Bajaj Finserv, Infosys, Axis Bank, Tata Steel, Power Grid, and Bajaj Finance. Conversely, Kotak Mahindra Bank, HCL Technologies, ICICI Bank, Maruti Suzuki, and Asian Paints were among the primary laggards.
In the broader market landscape, the NSE Midcap 100 index rose 0.11 percent, while the Nifty Smallcap 100 index posted a stronger gain of 0.52 percent.
Sector-wise, Nifty Auto, IT, Metal, Pharma, Energy, and Oil & Gas indices closed with modest gains, while Nifty Bank, PSU Bank, and Realty indices experienced minor declines.
All major exchanges—BSE, NSE, MCX, and NCDEX—conducted the special one-hour trading session, with block deals occurring from 1:15 pm to 1:45 pm, followed by a pre-open session and regular Muhurat trading between 1:45 pm and 2:45 pm.
Market experts regard the auspicious Muhurat trading as a symbolic commencement of Samvat 2082, establishing a positive foundation for investors as India's equity markets continue to demonstrate resilience and optimism amid global uncertainties.
