PM Modi's Diwali Letter: Operation Sindoor, Naxal-Free Districts, and India's Path to Becoming a Global Economic Power

In his Diwali address to the nation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted Operation Sindoor's success against terrorism, celebrated the eradication of Maoist insurgency across multiple districts, and outlined India's progress toward becoming the world's third-largest economy. The letter emphasizes citizen responsibility in building a developed India through embracing local products, maintaining cleanliness, and promoting national unity under the vision of "Viksit Bharat."

India not only upheld righteousness but also avenged injustice during Operation Sindoor that was executed in response to the Pahalgam terror attack, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated in a Diwali letter to citizens on Tuesday.

"This is the second Deepavali following the grand construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. Lord Shri Ram teaches us to uphold righteousness and provides courage to fight injustice. We witnessed a living example of this a few months ago during Operation Sindoor," he remarked, referencing the operation conducted from May 7 to 10.

Additionally, this year's Diwali is "particularly special because, for the first time, lamps will be lit in many districts across the country, including remote areas," he noted. "These are districts where Naxalism and Maoist terrorism have been eradicated from the root."

"Recently, we have observed many individuals abandoning violence and joining the mainstream development, expressing faith in our country's Constitution. This represents a significant achievement for the nation," he added.

His comments regarding Maoists came shortly after his statement at the NDTV World Summit 2025 that over 300 rebels had surrendered within 24 hours last week. He emphasized his government's crackdown on domestic terror groups and expressed his 'pain' regarding the bloodshed and violence the conflict had caused.

In the letter, PM Modi also highlighted that India has emerged as a symbol of both stability and sensitivity amid ongoing global conflicts. "We are progressing toward becoming the third-largest economy in the world soon. In this journey toward a 'Viksit' (Developed) and 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' (self-reliant India), our primary responsibility as citizens is fulfilling our duties to the nation," he stated.

"Alongside these historic achievements, the country has initiated next-generation reforms recently. On Navratri's first day, reduced GST rates were implemented. During this 'GST Bachat Utsav' (Savings Festival), citizens are saving thousands of crores of rupees," he continued.

Encouraging citizens to embrace local products, he said: "Let us promote the spirit of 'Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat'. Let us respect all languages. Let us maintain cleanliness. Let us prioritize health. Let us reduce oil usage in our food by 10% and embrace Yoga. These efforts will swiftly advance us toward a 'Viksit Bharat'."

Diwali, the Prime Minister said, teaches that when one lamp lights another, its light doesn't diminish but grows stronger. "With this spirit, let us light lamps of harmony, cooperation, and positivity in our society and surroundings this Deepavali," he expressed.

Here is the complete text of the letter:

Dear fellow citizens,

I extend my heartfelt greetings to all of you on the auspicious occasion of Deepavali, a festival filled with energy and enthusiasm. This is the second Deepavali after the grand construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. Lord Shri Ram teaches us to uphold righteousness and also gives us the courage to fight injustice. We have seen a living example of this a few months ago during Operation Sindoor. During Operation Sindoor, Bharat not only upheld righteousness but also avenged injustice.

This Deepavali is particularly special because, for the first time, lamps will be lit in many districts across the country, including remote areas. These are the districts where Naxalism and Maoist terrorism have been eradicated from the root. In recent times, we have seen many individuals abandoning the path of violence and joining the mainstream of development, expressing faith in the Constitution of our country. This is a major achievement for the nation.

Amid these historic achievements, the country has also embarked on next-generation reforms in recent days. On the first day of Navratri, lower GST rates were implemented. During this "GST Bachat Utsav" (Savings Festival), citizens are saving thousands of crores of rupees.

In a world going through multiple crises, Bharat has emerged as a symbol of both stability and sensitivity. We are also on track to become the third-largest economy in the world in the near future.

In this journey of a "Viksit" (Developed) and "Aatmanirbhar Bharat" (self-reliant India), our primary responsibility as citizens is to fulfill our duties towards the nation.

Let us adopt "Swadeshi" (local products) and proudly say: "This is Swadeshi!" Let us promote the spirit of "Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat". Let us respect all languages. Let us maintain cleanliness. Let us prioritize our health. Let us reduce the use of oil in our food by 10% and embrace Yoga. All these efforts will rapidly move us towards a "Viksit Bharat".

Deepavali also teaches us that when one lamp lights another, its light doesn't diminish, but it grows further. With the same spirit, let us light lamps of harmony, cooperation and positivity in our society and surroundings this Deepavali.

Once again, wishing you all a very Happy Deepavali.

Yours,

Narendra Modi
