New Delhi:
During Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi's Diwali visit to the historic Ghantewala sweet shop in Old Delhi, the owner Sushant Jain revealed that he encouraged the Congress MP to consider marriage, expressing eagerness to cater to his future wedding.
In an interview with ANI, Jain described Rahul Gandhi as India's "most eligible bachelor" and shared details about the politician's visit. "He came to purchase sweets for his home, friends, and relatives. I welcomed him saying, 'Sir, this is your own shop,'" Jain explained.
Gandhi actively participated in the sweet-making process during his visit. "When he arrived, he expressed interest in making the sweets himself and sampling them. Since his late father Rajiv ji had a fondness for imarti, I suggested he try making that. He also enjoys besan laddus, so I recommended he prepare those as well. He ended up making both items," the shop owner recounted.
"Everyone in India refers to him as the most eligible bachelor. I told him, 'Rahul ji, please get married soon — we're eagerly waiting to receive the order for your wedding sweets,'" Jain mentioned.
Earlier that day, Gandhi celebrated Diwali by visiting the renowned Ghantewala sweet shop in Old Delhi. Sharing his experience on social media platform X, Gandhi wrote about trying his hand at making traditional sweets.
His post read: "I tried making Imarti and Besan Laddus at the famous and historic Ghantewala sweet shop in Old Delhi. The sweetness of this centuries-old prestigious establishment remains unchanged — pure, traditional, and heartwarming. Diwali's true essence isn't just found in sweet platters, but in relationships and community."
Gandhi concluded his message by inviting followers to share their own Diwali celebration stories, asking, "How are you celebrating your Diwali, and what makes it special for you?"
Diwali is a five-day festival beginning with Dhanteras, when people traditionally purchase jewelry or utensils and perform worship. The second day, Naraka Chaturdashi, is also known as Chhoti Diwali or Small Diwali.
The third day marks the main Diwali celebration, when devotees worship Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi, seeking blessings for wealth and prosperity. The fourth day is dedicated to Govardhan Puja, while the fifth day, Bhai Dooj, sees sisters performing the Tika ceremony to pray for their brothers' well-being, with brothers offering gifts in return.
