Bhubaneswar:
A teacher at a school in Mayurbhanj district, Odisha, has been suspended following an incident where she physically assaulted 31 students who failed to touch her feet after the morning prayer session.
The incident occurred at a government school where the teacher reportedly used a bamboo stick to beat students from grades six through eight.
According to reports, the situation developed immediately after the morning assembly as students were returning to their classrooms. The teacher allegedly confronted students about why they hadn't performed the traditional Indian gesture of respect by touching her feet, then proceeded to physically punish those who had not done so.
Multiple students suffered injuries as a result of the beating. Reports indicate that one male student sustained an injury to his hand, while a female student was also hurt during the incident. The injured students were subsequently transported to a hospital to receive medical attention.
Parents of the victimized students congregated at the school premises, calling for punitive action against the teacher.
The incident was brought to authorities' attention when the school's headmaster filed a report with the local Block Education Officer (BEO). An investigative team consisting of the BEO and a school management committee representative visited the institution to conduct an inquiry, after which the teacher's suspension was implemented.
