Uddhav, Raj Thackeray's Parties To Contest Thane Civic Polls Together: Sanjay Raut

Uddhav Thackeray and MNS chief Raj Thackeray have established a closer relationship over the past four months.

Mumbai:

Sanjay Raut of the Uddhav Thackeray-led party announced on Saturday that the Shiv Sena (UBT) and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena will jointly contest the Thane civic elections with a goal of winning more than 75 seats.

This statement comes at a time when some BJP leaders have expressed interest in contesting independently in Thane, which is traditionally considered a stronghold of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and his Shiv Sena faction.

"Shiv Sena (UBT) and MNS will contest together and win Thane. Our slogan is 75 paar (more than 75 seats)," Raut informed reporters. The Thane Municipal Corporation has a total of 131 seats.

The growing proximity between Uddhav Thackeray and MNS chief Raj Thackeray over the last four months has fueled speculation about a potential alliance. Although neither has officially confirmed the partnership yet, an announcement is anticipated before the upcoming local body elections.
