Heroic Indian Soldier Performs Life-Saving CPR on Unresponsive Infant During Train Journey

An Indian Army ambulance assistant demonstrated remarkable heroism by saving an infant's life through emergency medical intervention while traveling on a train.

Sepoy Sunil, assigned to the 456 Field Hospital in the north-east region, was returning to duty after leave when he encountered a critical situation on the New Delhi-Dibrugarh Rajdhani Express.

According to a Defence official statement released Saturday, an eight-month-old baby suddenly experienced severe respiratory distress and became unresponsive during the journey earlier in the week. The infant's mother collapsed in distress, believing her child had died, while other family members were in a state of panic.

Upon noticing the emergency, Sepoy Sunil immediately assessed the situation and discovered the infant had no pulse or breathing. Without hesitation, he applied his medical training, performing pediatric cardiopulmonary resuscitation using two fingers on the chest along with mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.

After approximately two CPR cycles, the baby showed vital signs of recovery. The Defence official emphasized that "his timely and professional action prevented a fatality in a situation where no immediate medical support was available."

Following the initial resuscitation, Sunil coordinated with train personnel and railway police to arrange for the infant's evacuation and further medical treatment at Assam's Rangiya station.

The Defence official praised the soldier's decisive action and calm demeanor under pressure, noting that these qualities were instrumental in saving a precious life when professional medical facilities were unavailable.
