Two brothers, frustrated by lack of seating on the Amrapali Express, called in a false bomb threat hoping to secure seats when passengers evacuated. The Anti Terrorist Squad is now investigating the serious incident.

Fight, Then Bomb Threat: Brothers' Ploy To Get Train Seats Goes Horribly Wrong

The train underwent a thorough search at Kanpur station with nothing suspicious discovered. The two brothers involved have been taken into custody.

Two brothers, frustrated by their inability to secure seats in a train's general compartment, engaged in an altercation with fellow passengers before devising an ill-conceived plan. Their scheme backfired dramatically, causing widespread panic and delaying the train by more than 40 minutes. Instead of obtaining seats, they found themselves arrested.

According to officials, Deepak Chauhan, employed as a mechanic in Ludhiana, and his brother Ankit, who works at a factory in Noida, boarded the Amrapali Express on Thursday night in Delhi. The train operates between Amritsar and Katihar in Bihar.

Unable to find seating and approximately four hours into their journey as the train arrived in Etawah, Uttar Pradesh, they became involved in a confrontation with other passengers. Deepak and Ankit, natives of Ghatampur in UP, admitted to police they subsequently contacted the police control room with a false bomb threat, hoping to create vacancies as passengers would evacuate.

Following their call, multiple emergency teams including bomb squad personnel and firefighters were dispatched to Kanpur Central station. The train was halted, all passengers evacuated, and each carriage thoroughly inspected for 40 minutes. After confirming no threat existed, the train was permitted to resume its journey.

Witnessing the substantial police presence, the brothers turned off their mobile phones. They opted against reboarding the train and attempted to hide in Kanpur's Faithfulganj area.

Police initiated an investigation to trace the originating phone number of the threat call but initially were unsuccessful. However, when the brothers reactivated their phones Friday morning, authorities quickly located and apprehended them.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Akanksha Pandey stated, "They don't have previous criminal records, but considering the gravity of the incident, the Anti Terrorist Squad is also conducting interrogations."
