Bhojpuri Superstar Khesari Lal Yadav and Wife Chanda Join RJD Ahead of Bihar Assembly Elections

The renowned Bhojpuri performer declared, "My heart has always belonged with the RJD"

Prominent Bhojpuri celebrity Khesari Lal Yadav, recognized as one of the most influential singers and actors in Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh's popular dialect, officially became a member of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) on Thursday.

Khesari Lal Yadav entered the political party alongside his wife Chanda, amid widespread speculation that she might receive a party nomination for the upcoming elections.

Their formal induction was announced by Tejashwi Yadav, son and political heir of RJD president Lalu Prasad and the INDIA bloc's leading figure in the Bihar assembly elections, during a late evening press conference.

Following the announcement, Tejashwi Yadav kept his remarks brief, allowing Khesari to address questions from the media.

The celebrated performer stated, "My heart has always maintained allegiance to the RJD. I have simply formalized this connection by officially joining now." When questioned about whether he or his wife expected to receive an election ticket, Khesari responded, "There is no distinction between us." Reporters also referenced his previous day's statement to certain media outlets where he had mentioned, "I've been attempting to persuade my wife to contest elections, but she insists she would only compete alongside me."

The Bhojpuri star replied, "Yes, that was the situation. However, when I explained how brother Tejashwi, who worked to transform Bihar during his brief tenure in power, deserves a better opportunity, she agreed to reconsider."

Either the husband or wife is anticipated to receive the party's nomination from a constituency in their home district of Saran, which was previously represented in the Lok Sabha by the RJD supremo.
