Gujarat Cabinet Reshuffle: All 16 Ministers Resign Ahead of Expansion Under CM Bhupendra Patel

Gujarat's political landscape is set for a major transformation as all 16 ministers in Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel's government submitted their resignations on Thursday, paving the way for a comprehensive cabinet expansion scheduled for Friday. This strategic reshuffle comes as the BJP-led state government prepares to potentially utilize its full constitutional capacity of 27 ministers in the 182-member assembly.

16 Gujarat Ministers Resign Ahead Of Cabinet Expansion

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel is set to expand his cabinet in Gujarat on Friday, following the resignation of all 16 ministers in his government.

In Gandhinagar, BJP sources confirmed that every minister except Chief Minister Patel submitted their resignations on Thursday, just one day before the scheduled cabinet expansion.

The state government had announced earlier on Thursday morning that the cabinet expansion would take place, which has now been officially scheduled for 11:30 am on Friday.

The current ministerial council consists of 17 members including Chief Minister Patel. Of these, eight hold cabinet rank positions while the remaining serve as Ministers of State (MoS).

According to constitutional provisions, Gujarat's 182-member assembly can accommodate a maximum of 27 ministers, which represents 15 percent of the total assembly strength.

Earlier this month, Jagdish Vishwakarma, who was serving as a Minister of State, was appointed as the new president of the state Bharatiya Janata Party unit, taking over from Union minister C R Paatil.

Bhupendra Patel began his second term as chief minister on December 12, 2022, and now prepares for this significant restructuring of his cabinet.
