Following intelligence information, officers from NCB's Chennai Zonal Unit intercepted a mini truck near the Karanodai Toll Plaza on Sunday. During inspection, they discovered 150 packets of cannabis hidden within a specially constructed cavity in the vehicle. The NCB confirmed that the illegal substances had been transported to Chennai from Andhra Pradesh.

Authorities arrested two suspects: the driver who transported the narcotics from Andhra Pradesh and an accomplice who reportedly arranged counterfeit number plates and a fake FASTag for the vehicle. According to NCB officials, these individuals are part of a larger smuggling operation, and investigations are underway to identify and apprehend other network members.

Tamil Nadu's opposition parties have raised significant concerns regarding the increasing prevalence of drug consumption, particularly among younger demographics. They have criticized the current administration, claiming that the state is evolving into a central point for narcotics trafficking to international destinations.

In response, the state police and the ruling DMK government have emphasized that no drugs are manufactured within Tamil Nadu, asserting that all narcotics are smuggled in from neighboring states. They have assured the public that stringent measures are being implemented against drug traffickers.
