The Allahabad High Court has ordered Samajwadi Party MP Mohibbullah Nadvi from Rampur to provide regular monthly maintenance to his fourth wife or risk legal repercussions. Justice Subhash Chandra Sharma additionally referred the matrimonial dispute to the High Court's mediation center in search of a resolution.
The court has established a three-month timeframe for the parties to reach a settlement. During this period, Nadvi must deposit Rs 55,000, with Rs 30,000 per month allocated as maintenance payment to his wife.
The MP had challenged an earlier order issued on April 1, 2024, by the Additional Principal Judge of Agra's family court. During the High Court proceedings, Nadvi's legal representative indicated that his client intended to resolve the matrimonial dispute amicably.
Justice Sharma acknowledged the petitioner's submission, stating, "The court is also satisfied on the basis of the record and the submissions made before it that the nature of litigation is such that there is a chance to resolve the matter through the process of mediation and an attempt ought to be made to explore that possibility."
In the September 11 order, the court issued a clear warning that the interim order would automatically terminate if Nadvi fails to make the required deposit, neglects to pay the current maintenance amount, or if the mediation process proves unsuccessful.
