Engineering Student Drugged and Raped by Classmate in Kolkata: Police Investigation Underway

The police have not disclosed the home state of the engineering student victim.

A second-year engineering student at a private college in Kolkata was allegedly raped by a classmate who has since been apprehended by authorities. The arrest took place in the Anandapur area located in the southern section of the city, according to police reports.

The female victim, who relocated to West Bengal for her studies, lodged a formal complaint at the Anandapur Police Station against her classmate. In her statement, she alleged that she lost consciousness after consuming beverages that had been surreptitiously laced with drugs, after which the accused sexually assaulted her, a senior police officer confirmed.

Authorities have withheld information regarding the engineering student's state of origin.

"According to the student's complaint, she was in her rented apartment in Anandapur when the accused visited and contaminated her drinks with drugs. After consuming the beverage, she became unconscious and was subsequently raped by her classmate," the officer explained.

This incident comes shortly after another case where a medical college student in Durgapur, West Bengal was allegedly gang-raped after leaving her campus grounds.

The accused engineering student initially evaded capture for several days but was arrested upon returning to his residence in Anandapur. When presented before a local court, he was remanded to police custody until October 22.

"The investigation is currently underway, and additional details regarding the incident will be disclosed soon," the officer stated.
