The Adani Group is developing a revolutionary ropeway system to provide devotees with easier access to Kedarnath Dham, as announced by Chairman Gautam Adani on Wednesday.
This ambitious project, requiring an investment of Rs 4,081 crore, will create a direct connection between Sonprayag and Kedarnath. The 12.9 km ropeway, once completed, will dramatically reduce travel time from a challenging 9-hour trek to just 36 minutes, making the sacred pilgrimage significantly more accessible and safe.
"The difficult climb to Kedarnath Dham will now become easier. The Adani Group is constructing this ropeway to make the pilgrimage for devotees simpler and safer," stated Gautam Adani in a post on X platform.
"It is a matter of pride for us to be a part of this pious endeavour. May Mahadev continue to bestow his grace upon all. Jai Baba Kedarnath!" the industrialist added.
In September, Adani Enterprises Ltd (AEL) received a Letter of Award (LoA) from the National Highways Logistics Management Ltd (NHLML) for this prestigious infrastructure project.
This marks the company's first venture into ropeway development, with completion expected within six years. The project will be executed by AEL's Roads, Metro, Rail, and Water (RMRW) division.
The ropeway system is designed to transport 1,800 passengers per hour in each direction, serving hundreds of thousands of pilgrims annually.
This initiative is part of the broader National Ropeways Development Programme – Parvatmala Pariyojana.
Being developed through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, the project has a six-year construction timeline, after which AEL will operate it for 29 years.
Beyond improving accessibility to the sacred site, the project is expected to generate employment opportunities and enhance tourism throughout the region.
Previously, the Adani Group Chairman described the project as "a bridge between devotion and modern infrastructure".
"By making this sacred journey safer, faster, and more accessible, we honour the faith of millions while creating new opportunities for Uttarakhand's people through our partnership with NHLML and the Government of Uttarakhand. This prestigious project reflects our commitment to building infrastructure that not only serves the nation but also uplifts its people," Gautam Adani said.
