Haryana IPS Officer Y Puran Kumar Suicide: Family Consents to Autopsy After Legal Intervention

The family of Haryana IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, who allegedly died by suicide on October 7, has finally given consent for post-mortem examination after initially refusing. The 52-year-old officer's body remains at PGIMER as authorities proceed with the investigation.

Haryana IPS Officer Suicide Case: Family Gives Consent For Autopsy

IPS officer Y Puran Kumar was found dead under suspicious circumstances on October 7.

Chandigarh authorities have reported that the family of Haryana IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, who allegedly died by suicide on October 7, has finally given consent for the post-mortem examination of his body, according to a police official on Wednesday.

This agreement comes just one day after Chandigarh Police approached the court seeking directions to compel the family to identify the body for autopsy purposes.

The official confirmed that the post-mortem will soon be conducted at PGIMER now that the family has provided their consent.

Previously, a local court had issued a notice to Kumar's wife, IAS officer Amneet P Kumar, requiring her to respond either in person or through legal counsel by October 15. Failure to do so would have resulted in the court deciding the matter based on its merits.

Kumar, aged 52, reportedly shot himself on October 7. The post-mortem had been delayed as his family refused consent, insisting that action first be taken against Haryana officials named in what they described as his "final note."

On Tuesday, the Haryana government removed DGP Shatrujeet Kapur, who was mentioned in the deceased officer's note. Earlier last week, the state government had already transferred Rohtak Superintendent of Police Narendra Bijarniya.

Kumar's remains have been preserved at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) pending the autopsy.
