In Kota, a 12th grade student who had been missing for two days was discovered deceased in a hotel room, police announced on Sunday.
The student was identified as Priti Ahedi (18), who resided in Kelwada town in Rajasthan's Baran district.
Police reported that Priti left for school on Friday morning but never returned home, which prompted her family to file a missing person report with authorities.
By Saturday evening, police located her hanging from a ceiling fan in a hotel room in Kota, approximately 120 kilometers from her residence.
During their investigation, hotel staff informed police that Priti had checked into the establishment around 5 pm on Friday, providing her Adhaar Card as identification. Throughout her stay, she reportedly did not receive visitors nor leave her room.
On Saturday evening, when cleaning personnel repeatedly rang her room bell without response, suspicions were raised. The manager subsequently alerted police, who forced entry into the room and discovered her hanging from the ceiling fan with a dupatta, according to Circle Inspector Vinod Kumar of the Nayapura police station.
Inspector Kumar stated that no suicide note was recovered from the premises.
According to SHO Man Singh of Kelwada Police Station, CCTV footage showed the girl alone in civilian clothes, disembarking from an auto rickshaw near her school before boarding a bus.
Initially, the family refused to permit a post-mortem examination, alleging foul play in her death, Kumar noted.
Priti's family claims she was accompanied by someone to the hotel, but hotel staff have denied these assertions, according to the officer.
The family eventually consented to the post-mortem examination on the condition that police would register a case of abetment to suicide against an unidentified individual and conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances.
Based on their complaint, police have filed a case under section 108 (abetment of suicide) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The investigation continues, the officer added.
