Hyderabad:

Telangana's Nizamabad district police have apprehended the kingpin of an international cyber fraud operation and placed him under detention using the Prevention of Detentions (PD) Act, 1986.

This marks the first reported instance where the stringent PD Act has been implemented in Nizamabad against a cybercrime perpetrator.

Identified as Kolnati Naga Siva, the 36-year-old accused resides in Jeedimetla, a suburb of Hyderabad.

The criminal operation involved enticing young job seekers with promises of high-paying employment opportunities. Siva allegedly transported these individuals to countries such as Laos and Thailand, where their passports were seized upon arrival, forcing them to participate in illegal cyber fraud activities.

Police reports indicate that Siva faces four registered cases stemming from complaints filed by multiple victims. Authorities have confirmed that his criminal network has been functioning on an international scale.

Given the severity of his crimes, the PD Act was invoked against Siva on September 13, resulting in his transfer to Cherlapally Jail. The Telangana government is expected to confirm the PD order issued by the Nizamabad District Administration.

Nizamabad Police Commissioner P Sai Chaitanya has issued a strong warning to those engaged in illegal activities. He announced that law enforcement has established a "surveillance system" targeting individuals who disturb public peace, participate in unlawful operations, or disrupt social harmony. The Commissioner emphasized that such offenders will be subject to the PD Act.

Chaitanya also urged the public to immediately cease involvement in illegal practices such as 'Matka,' 'Gutka,' gambling, or any other prohibited activities.
