After Nobel Snub, Trump Thanks Putin For Praising Effort On Solving Crises

Donald Trump has expressed gratitude to Vladimir Putin for acknowledging his efforts in addressing global conflicts amid his evident disappointment over the Nobel Prize announcement.

The US President shared a video featuring Putin's remarks and wrote, "Thank you to President Putin!" In the video, the Russian leader praised Trump for tackling "complex issues and crises that have persisted for decades."

Putin refrained from commenting specifically on Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado receiving the Nobel Peace Prize. Instead, he criticized previous award decisions, suggesting that some recipients had done little to promote peace, which he claimed diminished the award's reputation.

"The committee has awarded Peace Prizes to undeserving individuals, decisions that have damaged the award's credibility," Putin stated.

Regarding Trump's qualifications, Putin remarked, "I cannot say whether the US President deserves it or not. He is making sincere efforts to address long-standing crises, particularly regarding Ukraine. While some initiatives have succeeded and others haven't, he is genuinely attempting to resolve these issues."

Trump has made no secret of his disappointment since the Nobel Peace Prize announcement. He mentioned that Machado called him and indicated she accepted the award in his honor, believing he deserved the recognition. "I didn't suggest she give it to me. She was very gracious," Trump added.

After receiving the award, Machado dedicated it "to the suffering people of Venezuela and to President Trump for his decisive support of our cause!"

Prior to this, White House spokesperson Steven Cheung criticized the decision on social media platform X: "Once again, the Nobel Committee has demonstrated they prioritize politics over peace. President Trump will continue negotiating peace deals, ending conflicts, and saving lives."

In response to Trump's campaign for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize, the Norwegian Committee, through chair Jorgen Watne Frydnes, affirmed that political pressure would not influence their decision-making process. Frydnes emphasized that the committee makes decisions "solely based on the work and the will of Alfred Nobel."

"This committee convenes in a room adorned with portraits of all laureates, a space that embodies both courage and integrity," Frydnes concluded.
