Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has strongly refuted media reports claiming he expressed readiness to become Chief Minister. Bengaluru:

Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has firmly stated he's "not in a hurry" for a promotion amid renewed speculation about leadership changes in Karnataka. He accused media outlets of misinterpreting his statements, denying any claims that he suggested the time has come for him to assume the position of Chief Minister.

"Some media houses are distorting my statement and attempting to create controversy. I never stated that it's time for me to become the Chief Minister. I will pursue legal action for defamation if anyone twists my words and broadcasts such misrepresentations," he informed reporters.

The controversy originated from an outreach initiative designed to engage with senior citizens and morning walkers, which aimed to hear public grievances and gather feedback regarding Bengaluru's development plans.

Shivakumar visited Lalbagh this morning to participate in this initiative when an elderly gentleman praised his dedicated work over the years and expressed his wish to see Shivakumar as the state's Chief Minister.

A video recording captured the man telling Shivakumar, "Sir, you have devoted 40 years of hard work for the party's growth. It's only fair that you become the Chief Minister." The man then inquired if the "time was approaching."

When reporting on this interaction, several news outlets quoted Shivakumar as supposedly confirming that the time was near for him to assume the Chief Minister position.

This misrepresentation angered the Congress leader, prompting him to criticize the media for inaccurate reporting. He clarified that he never made such assertions and that it merely reflected a citizen's personal wish. "During the public interaction at Lal Bagh, some individuals expressed their desire for me to become Chief Minister. However, the media has mischaracterized this as my own statement. Please don't distort the news and manufacture controversy," he stated.

He further emphasized that he isn't rushing to become Chief Minister and urged media organizations to stop sensationalizing the matter.

"I'm not eager to occupy the Chief Minister's position. My involvement in politics is to serve the people, not to engage in political maneuvering. I work tirelessly day and night in service to the public. If you continue to misrepresent the news in this manner, I will cease cooperation with you. I won't extend invitations to press conferences or other events," he added.
