Kerala Agriculture Minister P Prasad has suggested that allowing people to hunt and consume wild boar meat could effectively address the growing problem of crop destruction in the state. His comments come shortly after Kerala passed amendments to the Wildlife Protection Act aimed at reducing human-animal conflicts.

'Kill Wild Boar, Eat Their Meat': Kerala Minister's Solution For Crop Damage

Agriculture Minister P Prasad highlighted that wild boars are not classified as endangered species.

Alappuzha:

On Saturday, Kerala's Agriculture Minister P Prasad suggested that allowing people to consume wild boar meat could be an effective solution to address the increasing problem of crop destruction by these animals.

During an event organized by the Paalamel village panchayat in the coastal district, Minister Prasad mentioned that current central legislation does not permit this approach.

"I believe people should be permitted to consume the meat of wild boars killed in agricultural fields," he stated.

"The issue could be resolved much more efficiently if people were authorized to kill wild boars and eat their meat. Unfortunately, existing laws don't allow for this," he further explained.

The minister emphasized that wild boars are not listed as an endangered species.

Prasad's comments followed shortly after the Kerala Assembly passed legislation to amend the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972, which aims to reduce the growing incidents of human-animal conflicts throughout the state.
