Abhishek Banerjee's office is coordinating and monitoring this year's Bijoya meetings, marking a significant political shift.
Following Durga Puja celebrations, Bengal's political landscape is experiencing a notable transition. With the Election Commission of India (ECI) delegation wrapping up its two-day visit to the state, the Trinamool Congress has planned an unprecedented 100 'Bijoya Sammelani' meetings scheduled for Sunday. These gatherings will primarily focus on Special Intensive Revision (SIR) and public engagement strategies ahead of the 2026 electoral contest.
Party insiders revealed to NDTV that although this is an annual event, this marks the first instance since Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool came to power that the party will conduct 100 meetings simultaneously in a single day.
Emphasizing data digitization, the door-to-door initiative represents extensive groundwork that various government employees will execute at different levels. The ECI has clearly communicated to the assembled Booth Level Officers (BLOs) that any irregularities will face strict consequences. A party source commented, "This will likely be the final large-scale grassroots campaign before the 2026 elections."
This year's Bijoya meetings feature over 50 speakers distributed across all blocks, including MPs, MLAs, ministers, spokespersons, Chhatra Parishad leaders, and presidents from various frontal organizations. Minister Birbaha Hansda, representing Trinamool's tribal constituency, will participate in Bankura, while TMC IT Cell State president Debangshu Bhattacharya will attend in Birbhum.
A party source involved in organizing the program explained, "During these meetings, we're instructing party workers about SIR—its implementation process, the responsibilities of BLOs and BLAs. We're guiding party workers on reviewing electoral rolls and ensuring all eligible voters are included."
The TMC is simultaneously working to reinvigorate long-standing party members while integrating new recruits before next year's crucial elections. Sources indicated, "We're placing special emphasis on reconnecting with long-term party associates who haven't been particularly active, encouraging them to strengthen the party at the grassroots level."
