Rajasthan Man, In Contact With Pakistani 'Handler', Arrested For 'Spying'

A man from Alwar district in Rajasthan has been apprehended for allegedly engaging in espionage activities for Pakistan's intelligence agency, ISI.

Mangat Singh was taken into custody on Friday and subsequently presented before a special court in Jaipur the following day, where he was placed in police custody for three days, according to officials.

The authorities revealed that Singh, who hails from Govindgarh in Alwar, had maintained communication with a female Pakistani "handler" over the past two years. During this time, he allegedly transmitted sensitive information concerning Indian military movements through various social media platforms.

A public prosecutor stated, "He maintained contact with the handler, whose numbers were saved in his phone under aliases like 'Isha Sharma' and 'Isha Boss'. He provided numerous photographs and videos related to Army and BSF movements, particularly from the Alwar Cantonment and Ambala Cantonment regions."

The investigation uncovered that Singh allegedly received payments exceeding Rs 10,000 through multiple transactions from Pakistan in exchange for the intelligence he provided. His mobile device contained evidence of sensitive communications, including coded messages suggesting knowledge of troop movements prior to Operation Sindoor.

Singh, employed at a factory in Alwar, was locally respected as a 'Siddh Purush' and frequently participated in religious gatherings. Officials indicated that this religious persona enabled him to establish connections with both defense personnel and civilians.

"He utilized religious events to gain people's confidence. Through these activities, he established connections with various Army and BSF personnel," explained the public prosecutor, noting that agencies are now preparing to interrogate individuals who may have interacted with the accused.

Following his initial detention by the Rajasthan Police intelligence unit and subsequent questioning by intelligence agencies, Singh was formally arrested on Friday under the Official Secrets Act.
