Delhi Cops Reunite Intellectually-Challenged Woman With Family After 37 Days

Delhi Police successfully reunited a 21-year-old intellectually-challenged woman from Madhya Pradesh with her family after she was found abandoned in Shahdara while pregnant.

According to officials on Saturday, the Delhi Police managed to reconnect the woman with her family following a challenging 37-day search.

The young woman, who had been receiving treatment at the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences (IHBAS) since early September, was finally handed over to her relieved family members on October 7.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara), Prashant Gautam, explained that on September 1, authorities received a PCR call at the Seemapuri police station reporting an abandoned, pregnant woman wandering in the area.

She was immediately taken to GTB Hospital for medical examination before being presented to a local court, which directed her admission to IHBAS for mental health evaluation and proper care.

Following her admission, a dedicated police team was formed to locate her family. Head constable Ankush was dispatched to her suspected native village of Ranikhera in Madhya Pradesh, but initially, no information about her family was discovered.

In their continued efforts, police published her details and photograph in two newspapers, hoping to find leads about her relatives.

During her time at IHBAS, the woman delivered a premature baby girl on September 7. Tragically, the infant did not survive treatment at SDN Hospital.

Determined to reunite the woman with her family, the Seemapuri police team, including head constable Ankush and constable Raj, made another trip to Madhya Pradesh.

This time, their persistence paid off when locals in the Bageshwar Dham area recognized the woman. Police then distributed posters featuring her image, which eventually led to locating her family members.

When the family was presented before a Delhi court, the judicial authorities commended the police for their "sensitive" and "successful" handling of the challenging case.
