After Haryana Cop's Suicide, A Letter From Sonia Gandhi To His Wife

Y Puran Kumar, a senior Haryana IPS officer who died by suicide, continues to draw political attention as Congress leader Sonia Gandhi reached out to his family with a letter of condolence.

The tragic incident remained in the political spotlight on Saturday when Gandhi, as chairperson of the Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP), expressed her sympathy while criticizing what she termed the "prejudiced and biased attitude of those in power."

In her heartfelt letter to Amneet P Kumar, the deceased officer's wife, Gandhi wrote: "The news of the tragic death of your husband and senior IPS officer, Y Puran Kumar, in a tragic accident is both shocking and deeply saddening. My heartfelt condolences to you and your entire family in this time of immense difficulty."

Amneet P Kumar, herself a senior IAS officer serving in Haryana, has made serious allegations against top officials, claiming they conducted a sustained campaign of caste-based harassment and mental torture against her husband.

The Congress party shared Gandhi's letter on social media platform X, highlighting that the message not only expressed grief but also showed solidarity with those seeking justice.

Gandhi's Hindi letter further stated: "The passing of Y Puran Kumar will remind us that even today, the prejudiced and biased attitude of those in power deprives even the most senior officials of social justice. I and millions of our countrymen stand with you on this path to justice."

She concluded her message with prayers for patience, courage, and strength for the bereaved family during this difficult period.

Earlier, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) National President and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati had also commented on the incident, highlighting the widespread grief and outrage it had caused across India, particularly among Dalit and Bahujan communities.

Mayawati described the situation as a national shame and a reflection of the persistent caste-based discrimination within India's administrative systems.

Y Puran Kumar, who held the position of Inspector General in Haryana Police, reportedly died by alleged suicide on October 7 at his Chandigarh residence. The "final note" discovered after his death has ignited controversy regarding allegations of caste-based harassment by his senior colleagues.
