Y Puran Kumar died by suicide earlier this week. An SIT team arrived at his residence on Friday.
The family of Haryana IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, who reportedly committed suicide at his Chandigarh home on Tuesday, alleged on Saturday that his remains were transferred to PGIMER without their consultation, as they intensified their demands for justice regarding his death.
The body of the IPS officer was previously housed at the Government Multi Speciality Hospital in Sector 16 before being moved to the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) on Saturday.
According to sources, Kumar's family has not yet authorized an autopsy.
Amit Rattan, AAP MLA from Bathinda Rural and brother-in-law of Y Puran Kumar, told reporters, "They relocated the body without consulting us. We are facing injustice. Five days have passed since a DGP-level officer's death, yet justice remains elusive." Rattan is the brother of the deceased's wife, IAS officer Amneet P Kumar.
Y Puran Kumar (52), a 2001-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, allegedly took his own life with a firearm at his Sector 11 residence on Tuesday.
In his 'final note,' Kumar accused eight senior police officers of "blatant caste-based discrimination, targeted mental harassment, public humiliation and atrocities."
Meanwhile, Chandigarh DGP Sagar Preet Hooda visited Amneet P Kumar's residence on Saturday.
Speaking with media, Hooda mentioned he had requested the family to permit the post-mortem examination as soon as possible.
The autopsy will be conducted at PGIMER by a board comprising a magistrate, forensic experts, and physicians, the DGP explained.
The procedure will include videography and photography, the officer added.
However, Hooda emphasized that the post-mortem would only proceed with family consent.
When questioned about the family's hesitance to give consent, Hooda noted they have certain grievances under discussion.
Regarding why police haven't added suspects' names to the FIR, the officer stated that an investigation is ongoing.
A special investigation team (SIT) led by an IG-rank officer has been established for the probe, Hooda confirmed.
Chandigarh Police formed the six-member SIT on Friday, headed by IG Pushpendra Kumar, to conduct a "prompt, impartial and thorough investigation" into the officer's death within a specified timeframe.
Following the FIR registration, Kumar's wife Amneet claimed on Friday that it contained "incomplete information," and requested an amendment to "accurately reflect the names of all the accused."
In the FIR's column for naming the accused, it simply states "as per final note."
In correspondence to Chandigarh SSP Kanwardeep Kaur, Amneet also sought amendment of the "diluted sections of the SC/ST Act" included in the FIR.
In his eight-page 'final note,' Kumar identified eight senior IPS officers, including Haryana DGP Shatrujeet Kapur and Rohtak SP Narendra Bijarniya, for allegedly harassing and defaming him.
Kumar had recently been appointed as Inspector General of the Police Training Centre (PTC) in Rohtak's Sunaria.
