In an unusual incident in Bihar, five villagers discovered they were erroneously marked as "dead" in the draft voter list, just weeks before the first phase of elections.
Residents from Batsar village in Dhoraiya block were shocked to find their names labeled deceased on booth number 216's electoral roll. On Friday, these concerned citizens approached Block Development Officer (BDO) Arvind Kumar with a straightforward plea: "Sir, we are alive."
The affected individuals included Mohan Sah (Serial No. 2), Sanjay Yadav (Serial No. 175), Ramroop Yadav (Serial No. 211), Narendra Kumar Das (Serial No. 364), and Vishnvar Prasad (Serial No. 380).
Social worker Indradev Mandal led the group, who expressed legitimate fears that this administrative error might prevent them from exercising their constitutional right to vote in the upcoming elections.
BDO Kumar responded promptly, instructing the Booth Level Officer to complete Form-6 procedures to reinstate their names in the electoral roll. He assured the villagers that no eligible voter would be denied their voting rights due to administrative oversight.
This isn't the first such incident in Bihar. Previously, 15 residents of Dumri village in Bagahi Panchayat, Champaran, were similarly marked deceased on voter lists. Paradoxically, some genuinely deceased individuals remained listed as eligible voters - including Sonia Sharan who died in 2018 and her son Manit Mani who passed away in February 2025.
The Bihar Legislative Assembly elections for all 243 constituencies are scheduled in two phases on November 6 and 11, with vote counting set for November 14.
