Two constables have been suspended following allegations of assault that led to the death of a senior police officer's relative in Bhopal.

A 22-year-old engineering student named Udit, who was related to Deputy Superintendent of Police Chetan Aglak from Balaghat district, died on Friday after allegedly being assaulted by police constables in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.

Udit's family has demanded murder charges against the accused constables, Santosh Bamaniya and Saurabh Arya, who have since been suspended from their duties.

According to officials, the incident occurred around 2:30 am on Friday when Udit was celebrating with friends in Indrapuri's C Sector. Police arrived following noise complaints from the area.

A friend of Udit told NDTV, "Six of us were partying together and I was about to drive Udit home. When I inserted the car key into the ignition, a policeman appeared. Udit became frightened and ran toward a dark alley."

The friend explained that constables Bamaniya and Arya pursued and apprehended Udit.

"Shortly after, we heard sounds of beating and shouting. When we hurried to the location, we found Udit's shirt had been removed and there were visible injuries on his body, particularly on his head," the friend continued.

Another friend alleged that the constables demanded Rs 10,000 to 'settle the matter.' When Udit refused payment, the beating reportedly intensified.

Following the assault, Udit collapsed and lost consciousness. His friends rushed him to AIIMS Bhopal, where doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 2) Vivek Singh confirmed that Bamaniya and Arya have been suspended and an internal investigation has begun.

"We've collected CCTV footage and call records. If the post-mortem confirms assault as the cause of death, appropriate action will be taken," Singh stated.

"For transparency, a five-member medical panel is conducting the postmortem with video documentation. The cause of death will only be determined after receiving the postmortem report," he added.

Udit was in his final year of engineering studies and resided in Piplani. His father works as a government employee, and his mother is a schoolteacher.
