Student Arrested for Using AI to Create Pornographic Images of Female Classmates at IIIT Raipur

Police arrested a 20-year-old student from the International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) in Naya Raipur on Wednesday after he allegedly used AI tools to create obscene images of his female classmates.

The suspect, identified as Rahim Adnan, is a fifth-semester B.Tech student from Bilaspur. Authorities have filed charges against him under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Information Technology Act.

Raipur Police investigations revealed that Adnan employed sophisticated AI software to digitally alter photographs of at least 36 female students into inappropriate content. Officials confirmed that none of the manipulated images have been discovered on social media platforms thus far.

The incident was uncovered on October 6 when multiple female students reported to the IIIT administration that their personal photos had been digitally manipulated.

Following these allegations, female staff members from the institute searched the accused's hostel accommodation and seized electronic devices including a laptop, mobile phone, and pen drive that contained hundreds of photographs and videos of female students.

"Our internal investigation confirmed the misuse of digital technology to create inappropriate content. We subsequently filed an FIR and surrendered all electronic devices to law enforcement," stated Professor Srinivas, Registrar at IIIT Raipur. He further mentioned that the institute has established a three-member women's inquiry committee to supervise the case and prevent any potential data breaches.

Law enforcement sources indicated that forensic analysis of the confiscated devices will be conducted to assess the extent of digital manipulation and determine whether the accused distributed the content to others. The institute has suspended the student pending further investigation.

"We arrested the accused in Bilaspur before bringing him to Raipur for questioning. Forensic experts are currently examining his laptop and mobile phone. Our investigation includes determining whether he shared the material with anyone else," explained Ashish Rajput, the officer in charge at Rakhi Police Station.

Initial investigations indicate that the accused had accumulated over 1,000 images and videos of female students on his devices. Police are now working with cybersecurity specialists to verify whether any content was uploaded to the internet.
