New Delhi:

Professor KC Sinha, whose mathematical expertise has guided students through numbers for four decades with approximately 70 authored books, is now facing a more challenging equation – the complex electoral arithmetic of Bihar politics.

The 74-year-old mathematician has been included in the first list of 51 candidates announced by Prashant Kishor's Jan Suraaj Party. Sinha will be contesting from the Kumhrar constituency in Patna, traditionally a BJP stronghold.

Born in Bihar's Bhojpur district in 1954, Sinha demonstrated academic excellence by topping the state board examinations. He moved to Patna on a National Merit Scholarship and pursued his intermediate degree at Patna Science College. He continued his academic journey at the same institution for his BSc degree before completing his MSc from Patna University.

At just 28 years old, Sinha authored his first book, "Coordinate Geometry," marking the beginning of a prolific writing career. Over the years, he has produced more than 70 books, many becoming bestsellers among school students. His works have been integrated into school curriculums across Bihar and several other states for three decades. His distinguished academic career includes serving as vice chancellor at multiple Bihar universities, including Patna University, Nalanda Open University, and Magadh University. His contributions to education have earned him prestigious accolades such as the 'Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Shiksha Puraskar' and 'Icons of Bihar'.

Sinha has consistently advocated for accessible quality education for underprivileged students and has participated in initiatives offering free JEE training.

The Jan Suraaj Party's first candidate list also features two doctors and a lawyer, though Prashant Kishor's name remains absent, fueling speculation about his electoral intentions. Kishor has previously expressed interest in contesting either from Raghopur, an RJD stronghold currently represented by Tejashwi Yadav, or from his home constituency of Kargahar. With Ritesh Ranjan (Pandey) announced as the candidate for Kargahar, indications suggest Kishor may ultimately contest from Raghopur.
