Two individuals were apprehended after posting an Instagram reel documenting their harassment of women on Loni town streets, showcasing swift police action to uphold women's safety in Maharashtra. Shahid Hussain Shaikh and Saad Hasham Syed admitted to their misconduct before authorities and subsequently released a video apology, cautioning others against similar behavior.
The men, both residents of Shrirampur in Ahmednagar district, had traveled to Loni on October 4 where they recorded themselves making inappropriate comments about women in the Ahilya Nagar vicinity. In the footage, the suspects were heard stating they had journeyed from Shrirampur to Loni specifically "to harass college girls." At one point, after directing the camera toward two passing women, one perpetrator questioned, "Why are they laughing?"
They subsequently published the video on Instagram with the caption, "I was making the video, and they were laughing."
Law enforcement responded rapidly after becoming aware of the social media content. They successfully identified and detained the two men, filed formal charges against them, and confiscated their mobile devices and motorcycle. Following their apprehension, the pair acknowledged their wrongdoing and issued a public apology.
"We visited Loni on Saturday during a holiday. While recording our video, we made inappropriate remarks about women walking through the area. We uploaded this content to Instagram, resulting in charges against us," they stated in their apology video.
The men concluded with a warning against such conduct: "Don't do this or you will be charged too."
