Class 10 Student Forced to Sit on Floor During Exam Over Unpaid School Fees: A Case of Educational Discrimination

A Class 10 student in Maharashtra's Bhiwandi was humiliated by being made to sit on the floor during examinations due to unpaid school fees of Rs 1,300. This case highlights educational discrimination practices, with authorities now investigating the incident after the student's father filed a police complaint against the school administration.

Daddy, When Will You Pay Fees?

Fahad Faiz Khan, a Class 10 student, was discovered sitting on the floor during his examination at school.

On the evening of October 3, when Faiz Khan returned home from work, he found his son Fahad Faiz Khan in tears. The distressed boy asked, "Daddy, when will you pay the fees?"

This heart-wrenching question emerged from the humiliation the young student had experienced at school earlier that day. During his first-semester examination, Fahad was forced to sit on the floor due to unpaid school fees. This incident took place at Salahuddin Ayyubi Memorial Urdu High School located in Bhiwandi, Maharashtra.

"It was Fahad's first examination of the first semester, and he was instructed to sit on the floor, separated from his classmates," explained Faiz, the boy's father.

Faiz comforted his son and encouraged him to attend school the following day, assuring him that he would resolve the issue.

The next day, October 4, Faiz visited the school to investigate the situation regarding his son.

"I was informed that Fahad was on the third floor, but they wouldn't permit me to go upstairs. Nevertheless, I managed to reach the floor and discovered my son sitting on newspaper spread on the floor. When I confronted the exam supervisor, I was directed to speak with the principal. I then removed my son from the classroom," Faiz recounted.

Following this, Faiz took Fahad to the police station to report the incident. The authorities registered a case against the principal and the teachers involved in the matter. They then sent the student back to school so he could complete his examination.

"Fahad's school fee amounts to Rs 2,500, of which I have already paid Rs 1,200. The school has withheld his Class 9 results due to the outstanding Rs 1,300," Faiz claims.

The family alleges that the school administration has clearly violated their son's self-respect and rights, subjecting him to unnecessary humiliation.

NDTV attempted to contact the school administration for comment but has not received any response thus far.
