New Delhi:
According to recent reports, Gaganpreet Kaur's blood sample, the primary suspect in the Delhi BMW crash case, has tested negative for alcohol, indicating she was not intoxicated while driving. The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon when Gaganpreet, operating a BMW X5, collided with a motorcycle, resulting in the death of Navjot Singh, a senior Finance Ministry official who was traveling with his wife, Sandeep Kaur. The accused has stated she has "no recollection" of how the accident transpired.
Navjot Singh, aged 52, was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital, while his 50-year-old wife Sandeep Kaur sustained significant injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Venkateshwar Hospital, a private medical facility in Dwarka.
Delhi BMW Crash: The Complete TimelineNavjot Singh and Sandeep Kaur were enjoying their Sunday afternoon motorcycle ride before the tragic incident. They had first visited Bangla Sahib gurdwara in Central Delhi, then had lunch at Karnataka Bhavan in RK Puram. As they were heading back to their West Delhi residence, near a metro station on the Dhaula Kuan-Delhi Cantt road, a speeding blue BMW X5 struck their motorcycle from behind. The impact threw both riders off the bike, leaving them bleeding on the road.
"The vehicle was traveling at such high speed that it flipped over after hitting our motorcycle," Ms Kaur mentioned in her police complaint. She also reported begging Gaganpreet to transport them to a closer hospital, but her pleas were disregarded.
Both Gaganpreet and her husband Parikshit, who was a passenger in the vehicle, face charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder, reckless driving, and evidence tampering.
Video Footage Captures Devastating BMW CrashFootage from the accident location shows Mr Singh and Ms Kaur lying on the road near Metro pillar number 67 on the Dhaula Kuan-Delhi Cantt route. The BMW X5 is visible lying on its side on the road, with a motorcycle positioned near the road divider.
Another video depicts three men and one woman extracting Gaganpreet Kaur from the overturned BMW.
According to Delhi Police sources, the vehicle struck a divider before colliding with the motorcycle.
Questions Surrounding Hospital Choice 19 km From Crash SceneGaganpreet Kaur informed police that she transported Mr Singh and his wife to a hospital in GTB Nagar because she had previously received COVID treatment there. She claimed it was the only hospital she could recall at that critical moment.
Investigation has revealed that the hospital where the victims were taken is partially owned by Gaganpreet's family. Her father is one of three partners who own the facility, according to sources.
"I repeatedly requested her to take us to a nearby hospital. My husband was unconscious and needed immediate medical attention. Despite my multiple pleas, she took us to a small, distant hospital," stated Ms Kaur, who works as a teacher, in her police statement.
Father Could Have Survived With Prompt Care: Victim's SonNavnoor Singh, the 21-year-old son of the BMW crash victims, expressed that his father might have survived had he received treatment at a closer hospital. "Timing is crucial. Perhaps he would have survived if he had been taken to a nearby hospital," he remarked.
