BJP MP Khagen Murmu Attacked During Flood Relief Visit, Refutes CM Mamata Banerjee's Claims

BJP MP Khagen Murmu was violently attacked while distributing flood relief in Jalpaiguri, sustaining serious injuries including a broken cheekbone. He strongly denies Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's assertion that locals initiated the attack, claiming instead that TMC supporters were responsible. The incident has escalated political tensions in West Bengal, with the Governor issuing an ultimatum to restore law and order.

In Jalpaiguri, a BJP MP Khagen Murmu was allegedly attacked by a group he claims were Trinamool Congress supporters. Speaking from his hospital bed, Murmu strongly denied Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's claim that local flood victims had attacked him when he arrived to distribute aid.

"They attacked us... They pushed us and beat us, threw stones at our car," Murmu told NDTV in an exclusive interview. He questioned the Chief Minister's characterization of their convoy as excessive, explaining that they had only a few vehicles with MPs and MLAs.

Murmu recounted how the mob confronted them saying, "We are from the TMC, we are Didi's men. We are here. Why have you come? The BJP has no business here." Most BJP leaders managed to escape, but Murmu and BJP MLA Shankar Ghosh couldn't reach the boat in time.

The attackers vandalized their car, breaking both windshields. Murmu suffered severe injuries, including a broken cheekbone from a stone thrown at him. "I could even lose my eye, doctors said," he revealed, adding that his recovery might take "another couple of months."

Videos showing the attack and images of a bloodied Murmu have circulated widely on social media. Chief Minister Banerjee had described the incident as a "law and order situation" but suggested the BJP leaders provoked the reaction by bringing "30-40 cars inside a village that has lost everything."

The incident has escalated tensions between Bengal's ruling party and the BJP. Despite two arrests, the controversy continues. Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose has issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the Chief Minister, demanding she restore law and order or face possible constitutional action.
