Man Sentenced to 20 Years Rigorous Imprisonment for Sexually Assaulting Minor in Ghaziabad Under POCSO Act

A special POCSO court in Ghaziabad has sentenced a Muradnagar resident to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 1.10 lakh for sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl in July 2022. The conviction follows a formal investigation after the victim's mother filed a police complaint.

On Wednesday, a special court in Ghaziabad sentenced a Muradnagar resident to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a minor girl.

According to the government counsel, the special judge of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, Neeraj Gautam, pronounced the sentence against Akbar from Muradnagar for sexually assaulting a minor.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1.10 lakh on the convict.

Special Public Prosecutor Utkarsh Vats detailed that the incident occurred on July 5, 2022. The victim's mother had traveled to Aligarh for work and her father was away on duty.

The 17-year-old victim had visited a temple with her fiance and was dropped near a marriage hall before walking home.

The prosecution stated that as the girl was returning home, Akbar pursued her and forcefully entered her house. He then sexually assaulted the minor, causing her to lose consciousness.

Reports indicate that Akbar also recorded a video of the victim while she was unconscious.

After regaining consciousness, the victim contacted her mother and described the traumatic experience. Her mother immediately returned to Ghaziabad and filed a police complaint on July 7.

Following their investigation, police filed a formal chargesheet in the case.
