Police officials confirmed on Wednesday that two individuals have been arrested in connection with the assault on BJP lawmakers Khagen Murmu and Sankar Ghosh while they were visiting flood-affected areas in northern West Bengal.

The incident occurred when Khagen Murmu, Member of Parliament for Malda Uttar, and Siliguri MLA Sankar Ghosh were conducting an assessment of the flood situation in Jalpaiguri district's Nagrakata area on Monday.

BJP representatives have alleged that members of the TMC orchestrated the attack, though the ruling party in the state has firmly denied these accusations.

Jalpaiguri's Superintendent of Police Khandbahale Umesh Ganpat stated, "Two persons have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the attacks on BJP leaders in Nagrakata. An investigation is underway. We will soon arrest the others involved in the attack."

According to police sources, one arrest was made within Jalpaiguri, while authorities apprehended the second suspect near Jaigaon, along the India-Bhutan border in Alipurduar district.
