Police in Uttar Pradesh's Sambhal have issued a lookout notice against celebrated hairstylist Javed Habib and his family members in relation to a significant fraud case potentially involving crores of rupees.
The authorities have registered 20 FIRs against Habib's son and three other individuals connected to the case.
According to the Superintendent of Police, preliminary investigations suggest the fraud amounts to between Rs 5 and Rs 7 crore. As more victims continue to come forward with complaints, this figure is expected to increase substantially. Current investigations have confirmed fraudulent activities totaling approximately Rs 1 crore.
Sambhal SP KK Bishnoi stated, "To combat crime and criminals in Sambhal, we have registered 20 cases against financial fraudster Jawed Habib and his son, along with three other individuals. They operated collectively as a gang to defraud people. They collected Rs 5-7 lakh from individuals, enticing them to invest. We have registered cases based on complaints from 35 people," as reported by ANI.
Police investigations reveal that Habib's wife is reportedly the founder of FLC, a company currently under investigation regarding its assets and digital transactions. In 2023, FLC organized a major event in Sambhal, during which over 100 people allegedly invested substantial sums of money.
However, Javed Habib's legal representative has issued a statement clarifying that no FIRs have been directly registered against the hairstylist himself. The lawyer explained that Habib and his son merely attended a seminar in Sambhal organized by FLC as celebrity guests to promote the hair and beauty industry, and maintain no financial or business connections with the company.
Pawan Kumar, Habib's advocate, elaborated: "No FIRs have been registered in Jawed Habib's name. We have no direct involvement in these cases. Jawed Habib regularly conducts hair and makeup seminars throughout India, and FLC (Follicle Global Company) organized one such seminar in Sambhal, where he was invited as a speaker. He and his son attended solely as chief guests," according to ANI reports.
The lawyer further emphasized, "These allegations are being made without evidence. At the event, Jawed Habib was only promoting the hair and beauty industry. His attendance at the Sambhal seminar was strictly professional. Beyond this, he maintains no business or financial relationship with any such company. On January 22, 2023, we issued a public notice clarifying that we had no association whatsoever with Follicle Global Company. This notice was issued prior to the event. When we discovered people were being defrauded in FLC's name, we issued this public notice as a precaution."
The investigation continues as authorities work to determine the full extent of the alleged fraud operation.
