13,000 Candidates Per Position: PhDs and Engineers Compete for Police Constable Jobs in Madhya Pradesh

In Madhya Pradesh, the khaki uniform has transcended its traditional status as a symbol of pride to become one of survival. Following a prolonged wait, the announcement of police constable recruitment has generated an overwhelming response from job seekers across the state.

The Madhya Pradesh Staff Selection Board reports receiving an astonishing 9.76 lakh applications for merely 7,500 constable positions. This translates to approximately 13,000 candidates competing for each available post.

While the position requires only a 10th-grade education, the applicant pool includes highly qualified individuals such as PhD holders, engineers, postgraduates, and diploma engineers, highlighting the intense competition for government employment.

Initially scheduled to close on September 29, the online application window that opened on September 15 was extended until October 6 due to the continuous influx of applications.

According to officials, written examinations will commence on October 30, followed by physical fitness assessments conducted by the Madhya Pradesh Police. If the recruitment timeline proceeds as planned, the state will welcome 7,500 new constables by May or June of next year.

Among the nearly one million applicants are approximately 42 PhD scholars and over 12,000 engineers. The position, based on high school qualifications, provides a monthly salary ranging between Rs 19,500 and Rs 62,000.

This recruitment drive represents more than just a hiring process—it reflects the broader struggle of a generation. For thousands of overqualified applicants, securing this position isn't simply about wearing the uniform; it represents dignity, financial stability, and employment security in an uncertain job market.

The examination will be administered online across 11 districts of Madhya Pradesh, with testing centers established in Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, Khandwa, Neemuch, Rewa, Ratlam, Sagar, Satna, Sidhi, and Ujjain.
