Delhi government has announced that all its offices will be closed on October 7 in observance of Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti, according to an official statement released on Sunday.
The capital city will witness numerous programs, processions, and tribute meetings organized throughout Delhi to celebrate this occasion. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is scheduled to participate in these events.
Chief Minister Gupta highlighted that Maharishi Valmiki wasn't merely the 'adikavi' (first poet) of Indian literature and the author of the epic Ramayana, but also stands as a powerful symbol of equality, justice, and humanity. She noted that his enduring ideals continue to guide society toward principles of equality, respect, and dignity.
The Chief Minister emphasized that this celebration provides an opportunity for citizens to reflect on Maharishi Valmiki's life, works, and significant societal contributions.
Gupta also reaffirmed that the Delhi government remains committed to the upliftment, education, and provision of equal opportunities and socialist justice for the Dalit community. She stressed that Maharishi Valmiki's teachings continue to reinforce the spirit of justice and harmony throughout society.
A special commemorative program will be organized by the Delhi government on Monday at the Secretariat. This event, coordinated by the Department of Social Welfare, will feature discussions focusing on Maharishi Valmiki's life, personality, and teachings.
Both Chief Minister Gupta and Social Welfare Minister Ravindra Indraj Singh are expected to attend this special program honoring the legendary sage.
