The Indian Navy is preparing to commission 'Androth', their second Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC), at the Naval Dockyard in Visakhapatnam on October 6.

Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Naval Command (ENC), will preside over the commissioning ceremony.

According to an official statement released by the Eastern Naval Command on Sunday, "The Indian Navy is set to commission 'Androth', the second Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC), at the Naval Dockyard in Visakhapatnam."

The statement further emphasized, "The commissioning of Androth represents another significant milestone in the Navy's consistent progress toward capability enhancement and indigenization."

Constructed by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) based in Kolkata, Androth features over 80 percent indigenous content, showcasing India's increasing maritime self-sufficiency and dedication to innovative domestically developed technologies.

The addition of this vessel is expected to considerably strengthen the Navy's anti-submarine warfare capabilities, especially in addressing threats in shallow coastal waters, as noted in the release.

Alongside recent additions to the fleet—including Arnala, Nistar, Udaygiri, Nilgiri, and now Androth—the Navy continues to expand its operational capabilities while embodying the principle of Aatmanirbharta (self-reliance) through indigenous design and manufacturing.
