Five individuals, comprising three women, a man, and a minor girl, lost their lives, while five others sustained injuries, with two in critical condition, following a collision between an SUV and a truck in Chhattisgarh's Kabirdham district on Sunday, according to police reports.
The victims, who were originally from West Bengal, were en route to Bilaspur to catch a train to Kolkata after visiting Kanha National Park in neighboring Madhya Pradesh, as stated by a senior police official.
Police reported that the SUV—a Bolero—carrying ten occupants including the driver, collided with the truck at approximately 4:30 pm near Akalgharia village within the Chilpi police station jurisdiction. The impact resulted in immediate fatalities for three women, one man, and a minor girl, while the remaining five passengers suffered various injuries.
Among those injured, two girls received treatment at the district hospital in Kawardha, and an injured man was taken to the Bodla community health centre. The two individuals with critical injuries were subsequently transported to a hospital in Raipur for advanced care, the police officer added.
