A man has been taken into custody in Uttar Pradesh for allegedly fatally stabbing his one-year-old son while under the influence of alcohol, according to police statements on Sunday.
The tragic event occurred in Suremanpur village within the Bairia area on Saturday night when the accused, identified as Rupesh Tiwari, attacked his infant son Kinu with a sharp-edged weapon, as reported by police officials.
According to Circle Officer (Bairia) Mohammad Fahim Qureshi, the child died while being transported for medical treatment. Upon notification of the incident, police personnel arrived at the scene and arranged for the victim's body to be sent for postmortem examination.
The officer revealed that Rupesh is known to be an alcoholic who regularly subjected his wife, Rina Tiwari, to physical abuse. On Saturday evening, he returned home intoxicated and began assaulting her.
He also verbally abused his father, Kamlesh Tiwari, and made death threats against him. Fearing for their safety, Rina left for another villager's residence with her father-in-law, leaving behind her son and three-year-old daughter Ananya at home.
Upon their return on Sunday, they discovered that Rupesh had attacked their son with a sharp weapon, causing severe injuries to the child's jaw, the Circle Officer stated.
Based on Rina's formal complaint, authorities have registered a case against Rupesh under sections 105 (punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), and 351(3) (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Law enforcement officials confirmed that the accused has been arrested and taken into custody.
