Damaged Eardrum, Bloody Nose: Maharashtra Doctor Thrashed By Patient's Family

A junior resident doctor in Maharashtra's Jalgaon suffered severe injuries including a ruptured eardrum and bloody nose after being assaulted by relatives of a patient.

Dr. Mohit Gadiya was working in an overcrowded ward treating firecracker explosion victims when the incident occurred on Friday, according to the police report.

The situation escalated when Dr. Gadiya requested family members of a patient to wait outside due to the crowded treatment area. Instead of complying, the relatives refused to leave and violently attacked the doctor, delivering multiple punches to his face.

Only after seeing blood flowing from the doctor's nose did the assailants take their patient to another medical facility.

Hospital authorities promptly reported the assault to law enforcement, who have since detained two suspects in connection with the attack.

The Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors has submitted a formal memorandum to hospital administration demanding permanent security measures on campus, noting this marks the third attack on medical staff at this facility in recent times.

Violence against healthcare workers in India carries severe legal consequences, including imprisonment for up to seven years plus substantial financial penalties.
