The Assam Crime Investigation Department has intensified its probe into singer Zubeen Garg's mysterious death in Singapore, delivering his second autopsy report to his wife Garima Saikia Garg. The Special Investigation Team continued extensive questioning sessions on Saturday.

Guwahati:

Assam authorities delivered the second autopsy report of renowned singer Zubeen Garg to his spouse, Garima Saikia Garg, on Saturday as the state's Crime Investigation Department (CID) deepened its investigation into his mysterious death in Singapore last month.

Officials stated that a member of the CID's Special Investigation Team (SIT) personally handed over the report at Garima's Kahilipara residence in Guwahati. This delivery occurred just two days after she received the initial post-mortem report conducted in Singapore, where the 52-year-old Assamese cultural icon had passed away under what officials have described as "mysterious circumstances."

"My responsibility is to cooperate and maintain faith in the system. Anyone proven guilty of wrongdoing must receive appropriate punishment. While I have received the post-mortem report, I've returned it to the investigating officer since it belongs to the ongoing investigation, not to me personally. The authorities or court must decide whether to make the report public. I have complete trust in the legal system. In Zubeen Garg's case, nothing will be overlooked. Justice must prevail," Garima expressed.

Speaking to media representatives outside Garg's home, Additional Superintendent of Police (CID) and SIT member Moramee Das confirmed that formal statements from both Garima Saikia Garg and Garg's younger sister, Dr. Palmi Borthakur, had been recorded earlier that day.

"I have collected statements from both Palmi Borthakur and Garima Saikia Garg. However, I cannot reveal the contents at this point. You must understand investigation protocols," Das explained.

The SIT maintained intensive questioning sessions on Saturday, concentrating on individuals connected to the 4th NorthEast India Festival in Singapore, the event Garg had traveled to participate in before his death. Those questioned included journalists and several members of the festival's organizing committee, led by Shyamkanu Mahanta.

Mahanta, arrested earlier this week alongside Garg's manager Siddharth Sharma and two band members, Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and Amritprabha Mahanta, remains in CID custody. Officials confirmed that his wife and mother were allowed a brief meeting with him on Saturday.

Investigators are examining discrepancies in the statements provided by Sharma, Goswami, and Amritprabha Mahanta.

Zubeen Garg, one of Assam's most celebrated singers and composers, died while swimming in the sea near Singapore's Sentosa Island in mid-September. He had traveled there to perform at the NorthEast India Festival.

Singapore authorities performed the initial post-mortem shortly after his death, with the report being given to Garima on Thursday. Following his body's return to Assam, a second autopsy was conducted at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on September 23, hours before his cremation.

Beyond the criminal investigation, the Assam government has established a one-person judicial commission to independently investigate the circumstances surrounding Garg's death in Singapore.
