New Delhi:
India's military leadership issued a stern warning to Pakistan on Friday, including an implicit threat regarding Pakistan's continued existence, if it persists in supporting cross-border terrorism. The warning "Stop supporting terrorism or lose your geographical presence" was delivered to Islamabad, with references to Operation Sindoor reinforcing the gravity of the message.
At an outpost in Rajasthan's Anupgarh, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi declared that India's military would not exercise the same restraint if called to action again. Concurrently in Delhi, Air Force Chief AP Singh held a press conference reminding Pakistan of the substantial losses it suffered during Operation Sindoor.
"This time we will not maintain the restraint we showed in Operation Sindoor 1.0. Our response will make Pakistan reconsider its actions. If Pakistan wishes to maintain its place on the map, it must cease state-sponsored terrorism," the Army Chief emphasized forcefully.
He elaborated that the strikes specifically targeted terrorist camps and bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. By targeting these facilities, India presented clear evidence to the international community that Pakistan indeed harbors terrorism within its borders. Had India not taken action, Pakistan would have continued to conceal this reality, according to the Army Chief.
Meanwhile, Air Chief Marshal AP Singh revealed that India had downed at least one Pakistani AEW&C (airborne early warning and control) aircraft and four to five fighter jets, including American-made F-16s during the operation.
The coordinated statements from India's military leaders echoed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's strong remarks in May, delivered two days after the Operation Sindoor ceasefire. At that time, the Prime Minister had made it clear that Pakistan must understand that India's military had merely suspended strikes based on promises that Pakistan would act against terrorist groups operating from its territory.
"We will evaluate Pakistan's every move using one criterion... what approach will they adopt in dealing with terrorist groups embedded within their territories. If Pakistan reneges on its commitments or attempts to mislead, let me reiterate that we have only suspended our military action."
India has consistently reminded Pakistan that Operation Sindoor – initiated in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack – was merely paused following the May 10 ceasefire. Air Chief Marshal Singh emphasized today that this ceasefire was requested by Pakistan directly, not through third-party intervention.
These statements underscore India's consistent position that the ceasefire was granted only because Pakistan requested peace, contradicting United States President Donald Trump's claims of credit for the cessation of hostilities.
The Indian military leaders' warnings also followed Defence Minister Rajnath Singh's admonition to Pakistan regarding another longstanding border dispute concerning Sir Creek in Gujarat.
The Defence Minister reminded Pakistan that Indian armed forces successfully struck their targets, disabling terrorist infrastructure and severely damaging Pakistani air defenses during Operation Sindoor. He stated that the operation had "exposed" Pakistan and put their forces on alert, while also noting Pakistan's unsuccessful attempts to breach Indian defenses.
Rajnath Singh warned Pakistan to consider this when contemplating any aggression in the disputed Sir Creek area. "Any aggression by Pakistan in the Sir Creek area will be met with a response that will alter both history and geography," the Defence Minister asserted.
