Sources indicated that Goswami was observed, in video footage, swimming in very close proximity to Garg.
On Thursday, the Assam Police Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating the death of singer Zubeen Garg arrested his bandmate Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and co-singer Amritprava Mahanta, bringing the total number of arrests in the case to four.
Both Goswami and Mahanta were present with Garg at the yacht party during the North East India Festival on September 19. The 52-year-old singer went for a swim and was subsequently discovered floating face down in the water.
According to sources within the Special Investigation Team, video evidence shows Goswami swimming very close to Garg while Mahanta recorded the entire incident on her mobile phone. Both individuals had been questioned over the course of the past six days.
A chief judicial magistrate's court on Friday remanded them to a 14-day Criminal Investigation Department (CID) custody.
Garg's manager Siddharth Sharma and North East India Festival manager Shyamkanu Mahanta were also apprehended on Wednesday, and they are expected to be interrogated alongside Goswami and Mahanta.
Earlier on Thursday, Sharma and Shyamkanu Mahanta were charged with murder, culpable homicide not amounting to murder, criminal conspiracy, and causing death by negligence in relation to Garg's death.
"The investigation is ongoing and I cannot disclose details at this time, but we have added charges under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita," stated Munna Gupta, the Special Director General of Police of Assam's CID, who is leading the SIT.
The singer's widow, Garima Garg, expressed her complete trust in the justice system, adding that everyone wants to know who is guilty of what crime.
"The investigation is in progress and they are managing it in their own way. Therefore, we should refrain from commenting on it at present. I do not possess much information about it, so the law will take its own course. I have complete confidence that we will receive justice through our legal system, and the investigation will be conducted thoroughly. We will soon learn what actually transpired that day, and we want to know who is guilty of what. If anyone is responsible, they will be punished very soon," she told news agency ANI.
SIT head Gupta mentioned that the team is waiting to collect evidence from Singapore once it receives approval to visit the country.
"Our team is prepared to travel to Singapore. There are certain formalities to be completed. We have submitted the request through the appropriate channels, and it will require some time," he said.
