This incident comes amidst growing concerns about increasing sexual offence reports across the state.
Chennai:
Two constables serving in the Tamil Nadu Police have been removed from their positions following allegations of gang rape involving a young woman from Andhra Pradesh.
The Tiruvannamalai District Police released an official statement confirming that Constables D Sureshraj and P Sundar were dismissed through disciplinary proceedings. Both officers had previously been suspended after their arrest in connection with the case.
A high-ranking police official informed NDTV, "The two police constables implicated in the rape of a woman in Tiruvannamalai district on September 30 have been dismissed from service today under Article 311 of the Constitution of India."
According to investigators, the victim and her mother worked as fruit vendors who had traveled to Tiruvannamalai from Andhra Pradesh for business purposes.
The women were stopped by Sureshraj and Sundar while the officers were conducting night patrol duties on Tuesday.
Investigation reports indicate that the officers allegedly transported the women to an isolated location where the daughter was subjected to gang rape while her mother was forced to watch.
This case has generated significant public outrage, with Opposition Leader Edappadi K Palaniswami strongly criticizing the ruling DMK government in Tamil Nadu.
"The DMK government should hang its head in shame. I condemn the Stalin model government for creating conditions where women must defend themselves from police officers who should be their protectors," Palaniswami stated.
This disturbing event occurs during a period of increasing sexual offences reported across the state, with numerous cases involving authority figures such as police officers and teachers becoming perpetrators.
The DMK party maintains that stringent action is being taken in all such cases, with legal proceedings being expedited to ensure justice and secure convictions.
