New Delhi:

Stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui has become a target of gangsters Rohit Godara and Goldy Brar who reportedly object to his jokes about Hindu deities, claiming they offend religious sentiments. This information emerged after Delhi Police's counter-intelligence unit successfully thwarted an assassination attempt against Faruqui in Delhi.

Sources reveal that Delhi Police's counter-intelligence team received intelligence about the presence of shooters Rahul and Sahil in Delhi, who were suspects in a triple homicide case in Haryana. Police set up an operation to apprehend them. The suspects were traveling by motorcycle around 3 am when police attempted to stop them. The shooters responded by firing at police officers, who returned fire, injuring both men in their legs before taking them into custody.

During interrogation, authorities discovered that the shooters were in Delhi targeting Faruqui under orders from Godara and Brar, who are currently operating from overseas. Investigations revealed that the assailants had previously conducted surveillance on the comedian in Mumbai and Bengaluru before arriving in Delhi.

According to sources, the shooters had earlier attempted to target Faruqui in Bengaluru by waiting outside a venue where he performed. However, their plan was foiled when the comedian departed in an unexpected vehicle.

The 33-year-old performer has faced legal challenges previously due to his comedy about Hindu deities. In 2021, he was arrested in Madhya Pradesh under hate speech laws and remained incarcerated for over a month before receiving bail. Last year, Mumbai Police detained him during a raid on an illegal Hookah establishment, though he was subsequently released on bail.

Beyond his stand-up comedy career, Faruqui has participated in television shows and won the reality competition Bigg Boss.
