Hyderabad:

The much-anticipated direct flight connection between Rajahmundry (Madhurapudi) and Tirupati commenced operations today, dramatically cutting travel time between Andhra Pradesh's cultural and spiritual hubs.

Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, together with Rajahmundry MP Daggubati Purandeswari, virtually inaugurated the service from New Delhi.

Andhra Pradesh Tourism and Culture Minister Kandula Durgesh, alongside other officials, flagged off the inaugural flight at Madhurapudi Airport. Alliance Air will operate this service thrice weekly on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

During the virtual ceremony, Union Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu described the launch as a "gift to the people of Rajahmundry" coinciding with the auspicious Navratri festival.

Naidu emphasized the success of existing routes, noting that "flights to Delhi and Mumbai, previously established, now rank among the country's most sought-after services, operating at full capacity. This demonstrates Rajahmundry airport's potential. Linking Rajahmundry, the cultural capital, with Tirupati, the spiritual capital, is truly a blessing."

He noted the exceptional demand for the new route, confirming that all initial tickets were completely booked. The government has established a special promotional fare structure for the first three months, with the first 35 seats priced at Rs 1,999 and the subsequent 35 seats at Rs 4,000.

The minister assured attendees that construction of Rajahmundry airport's second terminal is advancing quickly and will soon become operational.

He also pledged to address public requests for new services to Shirdi, Goa, Ahmedabad, and Varanasi, while considering an additional flight on the successful Bangalore route.

State Tourism and Culture Minister Kandula Durgesh expressed gratitude to the central leadership for fulfilling a "long-standing dream" of local residents.

"Connectivity is essential for development, particularly air connectivity," Minister Durgesh stated, thanking Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for enhancing the region's air transportation network.

Speaking via video conference, Rajahmundry MP Daggubati Purandeswari explained that the service was arranged after Union Minister Naidu was promptly informed about difficulties faced by travelers heading to Tirupati.

"When Minister Ram Mohan Naidu learned about the challenges people encountered while traveling to Tirupati, he immediately consulted with Alliance Air and established this service," she explained.

MP Purandeswari also highlighted infrastructure's importance for regional development, committing to efforts that would connect Rajahmundry with major destinations nationwide by the 2027 Godavari Pushkaralu.

Local representatives, including MLC Somu Veerraju and MLAs Gorantla Buchaiah Chowdary, Adireddy Srinivas, Battula Balaramakrishna, and Nallamilli Ramakrishna Reddy, attended the ceremony and collectively requested additional flight services to Shirdi, Goa, Ahmedabad, Varanasi, and Kochi to further maximize the airport's potential.
